After a few years of studying Research Methods and attending many research classes/seminars for my Master’s and Ph.D. degree studies which, require an understanding of research questions, research objectives, literature review, theories, conceptual framework, and methodology, one of the things I have found problematic for many students is the inability to articulate differences between theory, theoretical framework and a conceptual framework for a proposed research project. This paper uses quantitative design/ methodology to draw upon my experience in studies and supporting scholarly literature in social sciences research, to contribute to existing knowledge on the meaning of each of these concepts, and more importantly, to distinguish between them in a study of Empirical Research. The primary aim is to help the reader develop a firm grasp of the meaning of these concepts and how they should be applied in academic research discourses. The short textbook exemplified confirmatory/exploratory research and theoretical/conceptual frameworks, distinguishing between the three approaches of research, philosophical worldview specification, and flow of quantitative research. The book serves as a recommendation for masters/Ph.D. students who wish to use a quantitative research approach in their studies. In this short textbook, the authors take proper care to achieve the following objectives:
Familiarize students with research approaches, worldviews, and concepts of theory/variables in research.
Demystify statistical (SPSS) frameworks, and the concept of mediating and moderating variables.
Provide students with an understanding of the vital components of quantitative research.
Acquaint young undergraduates, and masters, degree students with the structure of social sciences research.
