To design a real time application this will recognize the license plates automatically of vehicles at a gate. Automatic Vehicle Number plate recognition system is one kind of an intelligent transport system because of its potential applications in traffic monitoring systems. The purpose of this paper is to develop a real time application which recognizes license plates from vehicles at a gate, for example at the entrance of a parking area and to generate daily reports of the following. When any vehicle passes by the system the video/photo is captured and the number plate text is detected, this text is then sent to the real-time database (firebase) from where it sent to the android app for displaying it. System also generates report of a particular day. Detection of licence plates is done by training the dataset available online using TensorFlow Object Detection Model (TFOD). The steps involve importing TFOD into our ipynb and then splitting the dataset into testing and training data. Then trained our ML model for upto 10000 steps/epochs. Used OpenCV to detect the number plate using the trained model. Applied Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to the image and performed OCR Filtering to extract the text from each and every plate using PyTorch and EasyOCR.
