Abstract
Abstract This study qualitatively analysed SONA 2017 presented by the Ghanaian president, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo -Addo using the linguistic levels of stylistic analysis and speech acts. The address was his maiden speech after he was voted into power in 2016. The study was anchored on Social psychology frameworks to explore the use of linguistic features such as graphological features, lexico- semantic features, grammatical features, syntactic features, phonological features and pragmatics to analyse the president's use of language to persuade the addressees to repose confidence in him. The research design used was textual analysis. The excerpts were coded; E1, E2, E3, E4, ... for easy referencing and analysis. The study revealled the competency of the president in using discursive language to win the heart of his audience and undoubtedly, assuring them of his competence of being a prolific leader.
