Cultural alienation, quest for identity, tradition and migration
Manju Kapur's The Immigrant deals with the story of an indian immigeated couple Nina- Ananda, examining the controversy of cultural alienation and the quest for identity. It discuss the common theme of cultural conflict, identity, migration and dislocation of culture. The present paper aims at pointing out the issues of cultural identity crisis. It reflects the loneliness and search of ideology which was being focused in the western culture. Kapur's women protagonists are fight for their limitation of traditional ethics and family duties which was imposed on them. The author mainly focused on the difficulties of woman as she srands at the intersection of life to adopt the new western culture. The novel gives an overview about the inner conflict and the loneliness that creates certain amount of impact on individuals identity.
