Abstract: Passive solar technologies play a vital role in improving thermal comfort in indoor spaces by reducing energy consumption. Trombe wall is a suitable passive solar technology that is simple and can be easily integrated with buildings for both heating and cooling purposes. The main aim of this research is to analyze the thermal performance of two different types of Trombe wall systems namely simple Trombe wall and modified Trombe wall to enhance thermal comfort in existing residential buildings of Hamirpur. Firstly, a residence from Hamirpur selected as case study buildings, which fall under the Subtropical highland climate (Cwa) zone. On-site measurements were taken and data was collected. Thermal comfort range was determined from established comfort standards used in India (IMAC). Simulation studies were performed using Design Builder software to determine the total discomfort hours during both the summer and winter seasons. Total reduction annual discomfort hours have been derived with both simple vented Trombe wall and Modified Trombe wall.
