Abstract: UTI is one of the most common bacterial infections in children. The infection may affect the upper urinary tract (referred to as pyelonephritis) or the lower urinary tract. UTI is a significant concern for children, parents, and clinicians alike. Since UTI can present with vague clinical complaints, UTI should be considered in any infant or child presenting with fever without an obvious source of infection. Prompt diagnosis and early therapy are crucial in the prevention of long-term UTI-related complications. Objectives: To assess the pre test and post test level of knowledge, attitude and practice regarding urinary tract infections among school going children in selected schools. To evaluate the effectiveness of video assisted teaching programme on knowledge, attitude and practice regarding urinary tract infections among school going children in selected schools. To determine the association between post test knowledge, attitude and practice regarding urinary tract infections among school going children in selected schools with selected demographic variables. Design: Pre experimental one group pre test and post test research design was selected for this study. Setting: School going children in selected schools at kumarapalayam. School going children, fulfilling the inclusion criteria were selected by stratified random sampling technique. The inclusion criteria were children studying in schools at Kumarapalayam, who are studying in 6th standard to 8th standard, children of both sex and age group of 11 to 13 years, children who are present regularly at the time of data collection. A study was conducted with 60 school going children. The data were collected by using structured knowledge questionnaire, Likert scale and Check list Results: Level of knowledge among school children in pretest, 49(81.67%) of them had inadequate knowledge, 11 (18.33%) of them had moderate knowledge and 0 (0%) has adequate knowledge regarding UTI. In Post test 2 (3.33%) of them had inadequate knowledge, 8(13.33%) of them had moderate knowledge and 50(83.33%) has adequate knowledge regarding UTI. The pre test knowledge mean score was 06.97, and post test mean score was 20.57. Knowledge was increased after administration of video assisted teaching programme. The obtained t-value was 28.96, which was statistically significant at p<0.05 level. Conclusion: The study concluded that the school children had inadequate knowledge, attitude and practice regarding urinary tract infections. Video assisted teaching programme was effective in improving the knowledge, attitude and practice regarding urinary tract infections among school children.
