Abstract: China is renowned for its global aspirations to become a powerful and influential nation. China’s foreign interactions are majorly driven by the factors of power and influence, which have greatly shaped its activities and interactions with foreign nations. With the advent of space ventures, space has become just another domain of contestation for China to display its power and influence as a great power. China has been striving in several domains of sciences, technology and innovation at once – one of the most vital developments being that of space technology. Over the last decade, China has rapidly upgraded its space capabilities strongly emerging as a space power. This shows the aspirations of the nation in pursuing its core national interests and the assumption of its multilateral leadership. The growth of space developments can be interpreted differently in the international system. Given that China’s foreign policies have adopted an assertive approach, this might instigate concerns associated with the dual-use nature and military potential of these developments. This might further lead to changes in power dynamics and the resultant influence on countries. This dissertation assesses the multifaceted dimensions of China’s space ventures in terms of space exploration, technology as well as space cooperation. It investigates the geopolitical tensions and China’s space capabilities that might reshape the landscape of global influence.
Keywords: China, space ventures, power dynamics, space cooperation.
