Abstract: Kerala, an Indian state, is well-known in the development literature. significant human and social advancement despite poverty. However, there has been a reversal of growth, and they are now the highest-ranking Indian state in terms of per capita income, at position A. That's primarily because of strong growth supported by sizable international remittances. Nonetheless, there are no reliable time series data on annual remittances. This study attempts to close this gap by calculating the total amount of foreign remittances received in Kerala during a 47-year period—nearly 50 years. Kerala's updated revenue is shown in item number, and this data is used to calculate the impact on savings and spending. It was also emphasised how crucial a large emigration is to the state of the labour market. Given that only a small portion of all families receive family income transfers, the impacts There was also a distinct emphasis on the yearly transfers brought about by disparity in consumption and income. The findings indicate that inequality is on the rise. Despite his great status, Kerala has not been able to address its long-standing issue of unemployment among educated individuals, especially women, through the utilisation of remittances. The tax-to-income ratio becomes crucial in this situation since the state cannot use the rise in per capita income for its own financial gain, not to mention raising concerns about it. I also spoke with 25 families in an interview to get their perspectives.
