Prevalence of Neck and Upper Back Pain Among Eye Care Professionals

Aim- The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of neck and upper back pain among eye care professionals. Relevance of study- Neck and back pain remain one of the leading serious health complaints in the general population worldwide due to sustain posture, restricted ROM, and decrease head mobility. Surgeons and other physicians have reported occupational musculoskeletal pain, and it has been recently raised as a growing issue by eye care professionals. Methodology- In this cross-sectional study 83 participants were selected, according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. A brief demographic data of all participants was obtained and written consent was also taken. The entire procedure was explained to the participants and asked to fill questionnaire for eye care professionals. Result- The study was conducted on 83 eye care professionals, out of which 54(65.06%) subjects reported neck and upper back pain and 29 (35%) were without neck and upper back pain. 56 were males and 27 were females. Of all eye care professionals, general ophthalmologists 34(40.96%) and optometrists 26(31.33%) showed more response to pain. Conclusion- The study reported neck and upper back was prevalent among eye care professionals mostly general ophthalmologists and optometrist. The rate of reported neck and upper back pain among eye care professionals was 65.06%.Pain was related to work and exacerbated while doing work .The nature of pain was mild and tolerable.
