UNVEILING THE LARVICIDAL POTENTIAL OF MARINE MACROALGAE AGAINST MOSQUITOES
Keywords: Marine macroalgae, nanoparticles, seaweed extracts; Aedes aegypti
In this review, seaweed-derived repellents and biosynthesized zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles for use as sustainable larvicidal component against mosquitoes are focussed. The possible mode of action may be associated with the repellent properties on mosquitoes by seaweed extracts and larvicidal-pupicidal activity against Aedes aegypti larvae- pupae mediated through ZnO nanoparticles. Both have environmental sustainability, less toxicity and possibility to over come resistance of insecticide. We hope that additional research will be performed to improve formulations, evaluate the safety of these compounds and their ecological fate as well as their feasibility for testing in field trials.
