A healthy and positive aging process among the senior population may be correlated with a high quality of life. It could indicate that the elderly person believes they have a high level of physical and mental health, are actively involved in life, and have a low risk of illness and disability. A study was conducted to assess the level of overall health status and quality of life among the elderly residing in a selected urban area of Kottayam district. The objectives were to assess the overall health status of the elderly residing in the selected area of Kottayam district.To assess the level of quality of life of the elderly residing in the selected area of Kottayam district. The sample of the study consists of 80 elderly people from the selected urban community, Kottayam. The sampling technique adopted for the study was a nonprobability convenience sampling technique. A Self-structured rating scale to assess the overall health status of the elderly which consists of 5 domains physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and functional, and OPQOL -35 Standardized questionnaire for assessing the quality of life of the elderly. Most of them were in the age group of 65-75. More than half of them were from a nuclear family. All of them were married. They live in a pakka house. On assessing the overall health status of the elderly it was found that more than half of them had average level of health status. Most of them had fair quality of life. There is a moderately positive correlation between the quality of life and overall health status of the elderly
