Conjunctivitis frequently results in eye redness. which is why it's a common complaint in urgent care, emergency rooms, and primary care settings. There are two main categories of etiologies for conjunctivitis in children: infectious and non-infectious. The majority of pediatric instances of conjunctivitis are caused by bacteria, and symptoms include mattering of the eyelids and purulent discharge are common. A frequent eye ailment called "pink eye" is conjunctivitis. Although bacteria can also cause it, viruses are the main culprit in most cases. Eye symptoms can include redness, inflammation, itching, and frequent crying. Conjunctivitis may have an infectious or non-infectious origin. The most frequent non-infectious etiologies of conjunctivitis are allergy and toxin-induced conjunctivitis. Viral conjunctivitis is the most prevalent cause of conjunctivitis, followed by bacterial conjunctivitis. Based on the patient's medical history, symptoms, and ocular examination, a physician can typically identify if a virus, bacteria, or allergy is the cause of conjunctivitis, or pink eye. Although eye redness or swelling is a common sign of conjunctivitis, there are other symptoms as well that might change based on the underlying reason.
