Aim- To assess the effect of 4 weeks of interval training on energy expenditure using PCI in obese individuals. Relevance of study- The incidence of obesity is reaching pandemic proportions. Obese individuals may tend to expend more energy compared to normal individuals. Interval training is a form of exercise training which causes energy expenditure. Energy expenditure is assessed by using various measures. One of them is PCI. PCI is a reliable tool to measure energy expenditure during walking. It is a simple, functional, non-invasive method. There are limited studies available which considered the use of PCI for calculating energy expenditure in obese individuals using interval training. Hence this study has been undertaken to find out the energy expenditure by Interval Training in obese individuals by using PCI. Methodology- In this Pre-post/quasi experimental study 30 Adult aged 18 - 40 years were selected, according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Written consent was taken from the subjects prior to the study. The entire procedure was explained to the participants and demographic details of the patient were taken. Result- It was found that P value is 0.0001 which is less than 0.05 which indicates that there is significant effect of interval training on energy expenditure using PCI in obese individuals.
