As the global population rises, so does the need for clean drinking water. Solar desalination of brackish or saltwater to make it potable is a possibility. This study presents the design and performance analysis of a solar water distillation system to obtain potable water. A mathematical model has been developed using certain basic and elementary ideas. Computer modelling and simulation tools have been used to speculate on the efficiency of the solar stills. Analytical calculations and simulations using software tools have been conducted along with experimental testing to evaluate the system's effectiveness. Under specific outdoor conditions, the system achieved purified water production of almost 2.5 liters per day, enough to meet the drinking water needs of a family. This solar-powered distillation technique has potential for decentralized and cost-effective provision of drinking water.
