The present study was aimed to assess the effectiveness of flipped class method on learning outcome of fourth year B.sc Nursing students for selected topics of Obstetric and Gynaecological Nursing. The objectives of the study were to assess the level of knowledge of students (experimental and control group) on selected topics of Obstetric and Gynaecological nursing before and after the introduction of flipped class method, determine the effectiveness of flipped class method on learning outcome(level of knowledge) of fourth year B.Sc nursing students and find out the association between level of knowledge and selected socio-demographic variables. The conceptual frame work for the study was based on Ludwig von Bertalanffy's general systems theory. Quantitative quasiexperimental approach was used and pre-test post-test control group design. Actual study was conducted with sample size of 100, on National hospital college of nursing and Red crescent college of nursing, Kozhikode. By lottery method, the students from these colleges were selected as experimental and control group. Pre-test level of knowledge was assessed from both the groups using structured questionnaire. After that the preparatory instructional material (video for 20 minutes) given to the experimental group to study from home (outside the class). After three days, discussion and presentations conducted in the classroom for 30 minutes. 45 - 50 minutes traditional teaching given to the control group in the class room on the same day. Learning outcome (level of knowledge) was assessed after two weeks from both the groups using the same structured questionnaire. The results showed that there is significant difference in the pre and post intervention level of knowledge of the experimental group, there is significant difference in the level of knowledge of experimental and control group after intervention and there is no significant association between level of knowledge and selected socio-demographic variables. The study also revealed that flipped class method enhance learning outcomes of students and effective in teaching nursing subjects.
