Abstract

Millions of women across the globe are impacted by infertility, which is influenced by a multitude of contributing factors. Infertility occurs when a couple of mature age is unable to conceive after regularly having sexual intercourse during the appropriate time of the menstrual cycle, typically for at least one year. The issue of infertility is widespread across the world. Per Ayurveda, Vandhya is described as the loss of Artava (ovum). Described as Vandhyatva and Infertility in Modern science, the condition of not having a baby. Ayurvedic texts have described multiple medicinal formulas for female infertility. This review aimed to determine the effectiveness of medicated Ghrita/Taila in treating female Infertility. In this study, medicated ghee and oil formulations were gathered from nine Ayurveda classical texts, seven review articles, and thirty-six clinical trials. Phala Ghrita was the most frequently utilized among the 14 medicated Ghritas, and Bala Taila was the commonly used medicated Taila out of 11. Basti was the most effective way to administer Taila, while the oral route was optimal for Ghrita. In studies related to tubal blockage using medicated ghee and oil, 81.25% of tubal patency was observed with Pala Kalyana Ghrita and Apamargakshara Taila Uttara Basti, while 80% tubal patency was seen with Kumari Taila. The study on ovulatory influence demonstrated that Sahachra Taila, Shathavari Taila Uttara Basti had an 87% ovulation rate and 62% conception rate, while Shathapushpa Taila had an 81.25% ovulation rate. Phala Ghrita Uttara Basti has shown better results for treating infertility caused by endometrial factors compared to Phala Ghrita. Examined data showed that the most effective method of treatment for female infertility was found to be Uttara Basti. Some medicinal Ghrita and Taila were discovered in ancient texts, but no research has been conducted yet. Therefore, this review is extremely beneficial for management.
