Consumer durables have significant demand in rural areas. Consumer durables encompass a wide range of products designed for prolonged use by consumers. These goods are such goods which are needed by everyone for day-to-day use. With the change in environment, life style of people also is changing across rural areas and the rural consumer moving forward towards better quality of life. The rural consumer is becoming slowly modernized. As the consumption pattern of rural consumer is different as compared to urban consumer. Rural consumers also tend to buy those products which were earlier mainly preferable for the urban consumers. Similarly, consumers in rural areas are well aware of about the products they need. Most of them are more concerned about the quality of durables rather than price of the product or any other factor and purchases a durable only when he feels the need for it. Accordingly, each market consists of those goods which are needed by the customers near them to satisfy their needs & wants and fulfils their expectations. It is observed that every market has its own type of socio-cultural factors which directly or indirectly influence their strategies to survive in these segments. To survive in rural market the marketers have to adopt proper well-defined marketing strategies matching with consumer’s satisfaction and expectation level. In response of various factors this study purposes to investigate consumer awareness and consumption pattern of rural consumers toward durable goods.
