The transdermal drug delivery system (TDDS) has become a crucial component of innovative drug delivery systems. Small, lipophilic, low-dose drugs are increasingly being administered in clinical settings using first-generation transdermal delivery techniques. Second-generation delivery techniques, including chemical enhancers, non-cavitational ultrasound, and iontophoresis, have also been used to develop clinical solutions. In contrast to traditional topical drug administration techniques, transdermal drug delivery devices distribute medications via the skin to produce a systemic effect. This article examines the several kinds of transdermal patches that are on the market, their structural elements, the function of polymers, and the necessary evaluation instruments. A transdermal medication delivery system is one in which the drug's active ingredients are delivered via the skin. Limiting hepatic first-pass metabolism, improving therapeutic efficacy, and maintaining a constant medication plasma level are some significant benefits of transdermal drug administration. This review article discusses the preparation methods for many kinds of transdermal patches, such as membrane matrix, drug-in-adhesive, and micro reservoir patches. Studies have also been conducted on the different methods for evaluating transdermal dose forms.
