Moral law according to Immanuel Kant is always different from empirical laws and such other laws which are based on merely experience. Moral laws are always based on pure rationality. Every person's physical need and natural drive for living is different. It is true for individual's urge for acquiring honour, knowledge, personal dignity and choices for living etc. Therefore, personal physical experiences can never be transformed into universal principle which can be applicable to every person's life. But if we talk about Kantian notion of morality we can see that to Kant those acts are only good which can be followed by everyone else and at the same time will that it can become a universal law. This paper is an effort to judge acts of targeted killing in the lights of Kantian notion of morality. Targeted killing is such an act in which a human being is killed for satisfying a purpose in premeditated way. Usually the term 'targeted killing' refers to killing in warfare but I am going to include all those killings under this umbrella term which are pre-targeted and satisfy an interest or motive. Targeted killing is always associated with getting some benefit. Thus we can say that it is a form of killing with intention. Or we can say that in every sphere of targeted killing targeted human beings are treated only as a means like abortion, euthanasia, honour killing, homicide, terrorism and warfare etc. In all these spheres life of a human being is terminated forcefully by using them only as a means to satisfy a goal. This nature of targeted killing makes it contrary to Kantian notion of morality because Kant always proposed to include humanity in every act of our which should be followed by everyone else in their act and no human being should never be used only as a means. Killing a person in a ore-targeted way threaten entire society and destroy value and dignity of human life so Kantian notion of morality is clearly opposed to such killings. Aim of this paper is to discuss the acceptability of targeted killings in the lights of Kantian notion of morality.
