Abstract
India is a nation where young people predominate. India is still falling behind in terms of economic growth due to a number of issues, including poverty, unemployment, illiteracy, poor medical facilities, etc. In order for the nation to develop economically, youth is essential. The major goal of the Narendra Modi-inspired initiative Skill India, which he unveiled in March 2015, is to provide Indian youth the chance, space, and opportunity to develop their abilities on their own. The goal of this initiative is to train and enhance the skills of young people from every hamlet. Changing one's abilities and mindset has always been necessary for success and will continue to be so. Over and above the initial motivation offered by academic credentials, one needs to be aware of their innate strengths. Therefore, he or she must comprehend the effects of technology and update themselves appropriately. In order to reach behavioural excellence while sharpening technical competence, he or she must also invest in behavioural readiness and development.The government engages in numerous initiatives to boost youth creativity and infuse leadership traits. Still, certain inconsistencies and gaps have been discovered. The focus of the new strategy is now on youth unemployment and job creation. This essay aims to determine the extent of the skill development programmes' success and the main challenges that young people confront when launching the government-sponsored skill development initiatives. The need to strengthen the economy can be achieved when current educational mechanism which is focusing on academic skills, shifts& focusing on generating employable skill among the student.
