Reading Mahotsav 2026–27 was implemented as a school-wide literacy initiative intended to extend reading beyond textbook-based tasks into storytelling, read-alouds, discussion, creative response, puppet-based narration, student presentations, creative writing and shared literacy experiences. Approximately 1,500 students participated in the programme. The practitioner reports that improvement in reading-related engagement and literacy behaviours was observed among 650+ students. Because the supplied evidence does not contain matched student-level pre- and post-intervention scores, this figure is treated as observational implementation evidence rather than as a standardized measure of learning gain. The study therefore distinguishes clearly between documented participation, observed change and measured outcomes. The evidence base available for this report includes six photographs supplied by the practitioner, a documented collection of 28 student stories, a collection of 15 poems, and a 14-profile collection of student author biodata. The creative-writing evidence demonstrates that students moved from receptive literacy experiences towards productive expression: they generated characters, settings, dialogue, problems, solutions, moral ideas, imagery and original story worlds. The poetry collection shows expression in both Hindi and English and includes themes such as nature, rain, school, pets, wind and trees. The author profiles further document students developing identities and interests around reading, storytelling and writing. The study uses a practitioner-based action research design. Analysis is descriptive and evidence-led. No fabricated questionnaire responses, rubric scores, reading-fluency scores or comprehension percentages are included. Questionnaires, observation rubrics and reflection instruments are provided as appendices for reproducible future measurement. The findings support the conclusion that Reading Mahotsav created a broad literacy environment in which reading, listening, speaking, imagination, creative writing and sharing were interconnected. The paper concludes that the strongest evidence at this stage concerns programme reach and creative-literacy engagement, while a future cycle should add matched pre/post measures to quantify changes in reading outcomes.
