Abstract
Cardiovascular diseases are the serious preventable cause of morbidity and mortality in India. It is the major cause of disability and premature death throughout the world. The objectives of the study were to assess the risk factors of cardiovascular diseases among adults and to find out the association between level of risk of developing cardiovascular diseases with demographic variables. A quantitative research approach was used for the study. A sample of 80 adults was selected using non probability purposive sampling technique. The study was conducted among adults attending the OPDs of selected hospital, Kozhencherry. The risk factors of developing cardiovascular diseases are assessed using standardized Framingham tool and demographic variables. Distribution of 10 year risk score of developing cardiovascular diseases among adults revealed that 42.5% of samples are having low risk, 36.25% of samples are having moderate risk and 21.25% of samples are having high risk to develop cardiovascular diseases. This study recommends conducting further risk assessment program to improve preventive measures against cardiovascular diseases.
