In today's world, it often takes a complex journey through a system called a "distributed system." This interconnected system of computers enables information to be accessed and shared from multiple locations, offering benefits like easier access for healthcare providers and better coordination of care. However, it also raises important questions about privacy: how can we ensure your sensitive medical data stays safe and secure in this decentralized environment? This paper dives into these questions, exploring the intersection of distributed systems, privacy, and the pivotal legistlation for safeguarding patients sensitive information called HIPAA (the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act). By analyzing the latest research, we identify key challenges and potential solutions to safeguard patient information. We also examine how HIPAA applies to these modern distributed systems, ensuring patients data remains protected. |
