Abstract
The research examines public views about media freedom, regulation, and misuse—particularly in the digital age—using both doctrinal and empirical methodologies, including a standardized questionnaire given to students and legal professionals. It draws attention to issues including sponsored news, media trials, and unrestrained social media use, which can occasionally result in false information, cyberbullying, and defamation. The results point to a general consensus that media freedom is important, but that prudent control is also necessary to avoid abuse. The study comes to the conclusion that although India offers a solid basis for free speech, changing risks call for more precise legislation, improved enforcement, and more public awareness to guarantee that free speech strengthens democracy rather than weakens it.
