In gas turbine engine, one of the major failure is due to fretting fatigue at turbine blade/disc joints. Fretting fatigue generally leads to the degradation of fatigue strength of material due cyclic micro-slip between contacting surfaces. The present study focuses on achieving optimal blade/disc parametric combination in order to minimize stress distribution and effect of fretting fatigue based on Response Surface Method (RSM). In this work most effective geometrical parameters like bottom flank angle, skew angle and number teeth are considered as variables affecting on stress distribution such as von-mises stress, maximum principle stress, shear stress, and contact pressure. Second-order quadratic models are developed for all responses, using central composite design. The developed models are used to determine the optimum parameters. These optimized geometrical parameters are validated as the response values are in reasonable agreement with the predicted values.
