| Abstract: | Typhoid fever is a globally spread infectious disease. Although there is a lot of information on Salmonella typhimurium infection in mice and the interaction of this serovar with human cell lines in vitro, information on S. typhi and the pathogenesis of typhoid fever is limited. We focus on three aspects in this review: adhesion to and penetration of gut epithelial cells, dissemination to systemic locations, and host cell survival and reproduction. We have included all relevant information about typhoid treatment and causes in this review. |
