ABSTRACT
Success in the profession of every professional depends on various factors like up-to-date professional knowledge, attitude towards the profession, dedication, discipline, efficiency and effectiveness. These qualities are inculcated through education. Education is a dynamic process, and this dynamism is influenced mainly by the teachers. Since the teaching profession has possessed an honourable position in society from ancient times to date, a Diversified role has to be played by the teachers in their professional life, so teachers must upgrade themselves. It can be possible only with the help of effective professional education. Teacher education in India is as old as the history of the Indian Education system. The importance of teacher education has also been realized clearly by different committees and commissions after independence and recommended accordingly. In this regard Education Commission (1964-66) has remarked, "A sound programme of professional education of teachers is essential for qualitative improvement of education….." The teacher training process is broadly categorized into two categories, viz pre-service and in-service. This paper is focused on in-service teacher education, especially the B.Ed programme. B.Ed programme is designed for the teachers teaching or teaching at the secondary and senior secondary stage. Through the study, the investigator will try to determine the impact of B.Ed .programme on teaching effectiveness and teaching attitude of in-service teachers of secondary school. It may be a matter of concern whether a two-year B.Ed. programme influences the teaching effectiveness and teaching attitude. This paper shall provide an attempted overview of in-service teacher education and a humble attempt to explore the impact of B.Ed. programme on teaching effectiveness and teaching attitude of in-service teachers of secondary school.
