This study is concerned with an analysis of the teaching of Literature in English in Cameroon, within a context of the contextualization of the English language in Cameroonian contemporary creative writings, especially those used in secondary education. The purpose is to bring out teachers views and teaching techniques when faced with socio-cultural aspects in the Literature read in class. The theoretical framework used is mainly based on approaches in second language acquisition, especially Giles Accommodation Model and Andersen’s Nativization Theory, as well as Burke’s Sociological Criticism in Literature. This theoretical framework is rendered practical with the use of questionnaires addressed to teachers, with emphasis on the methods used and the end-results. From the data collected, classroom practices reveal difficulties for both teachers and students at the linguistic and cultural levels when reading Literature in English in class. Teachers therefore have to develop a socio-cultural competence so as to tackle contextualized elements with ease.
