Abstract: In a variety of structural applications, cold-formed steel is widely used as a construction material, mainly because of its higher strength to weight ratio, simplicity, cost of handling and transportation, ease of manufacturing and installation. One of the main drawbacks of these sections is premature local buckling failure. Numerous techniques have been used to address this issue, resulting in efficient sections capable of supporting higher loads. Built-up columns are so much better than mono-section columns, so it is used in a variety of applications such as connecting platforms at subway/metro stations, compression elements in steel bridges etc. Laced built-up columns provide more axial strength and stability than regular built-up columns because they have continuous lateral connectivity. The current work aims to carry out numerical study to find out the ways to increase the load-bearing capacity of laced structures without compromising its height requirements at a reasonable cost, which can be later useful for future industries. The study will make use of Finite element analysis to analyze and compare different thickness batten plate thickness and intermediate batten plate on the laced structure to improve its overall bearing capacity.
