Abstract: Abstract Emotional intelligence is very important for evaluation of effectiveness of teacher. Emotional intelligence of a teacher plays a crucial role in theirteaching profession. The main objective of this study is to explore the emotional intelligence among head teachers of govt. and private primary school with respect to the type of school, gender and locality. Sample for the study consisted of 160 primary school head teachers (80 males 80 females) which was selected from Dum Dum (including Dum Dum Municipality, South Dum Dum Municipality and North Dum Dum Municipality) area of North Twenty four Pargana district of West Bengal, of which fifty per cent were govt. primary school head teachers and fifty per cent were private primary school head teachers. The stratified random sampling method was used. The data were collected by using emotional intelligence test developed by Dalip Singh and Dr. N. K. Chadha (2001). For data analysis means, SD and t- test were calculated. The results of the study revealed that Private primary school head teachers are more emotionally intelligence than the Govt. primary school head teachers. Results showed that female primary school head teachers have high emotional intelligence in compare to male primary school head teachers. There is no significant difference between rural and urban primary school head teachers on emotional intelligence.
