The ethnic crisis in Xinjiang has become an increasingly critical concern on the global stage.
Xinjiang, an autonomous region located in northwest China, has a significant Muslim Uighur
minority population, which has long been marginalized by the Chinese government. After
several instances of unrest in the region, the Chinese government began implementing policies
aimed at ensuring social stability. These policies include strict monitoring of the Muslim
population, mass surveillance, and internment camps for those deemed susceptible to extreme
ideologies. These policies have resulted in widespread human rights abuses and garnered
significant international criticism.
This article aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of international responses to the ongoing
situation, with a focus on diplomatic and humanitarian strategies employed by various states
and organizations. Through a thorough review of UN reports, government statements, and
scholarly works, the article covers the key concerns, such as human rights violations and
minority persecution, that have evoked global condemnation. Additionally, the article explores
the diverse array of responses, including diplomatic negotiations, sanctions, and humanitarian
aid. By examining the efficacy and impact of these approaches, the study offers insights into
the effectiveness of current international response measures and proposes recommendations
for a more cohesive and strategic intervention in order to address the growing humanitarian
crisis in Xinjiang.
