Champia parvula, a species of red seaweed predominantly found in Southern Europe and Southwest Asia, has recently garnered attention due to its remarkable properties. Extensive research on this marine seaweed has yielded a wealth of information regarding its biological activity, which varies depending on the type of extract used. Over the past two decades, numerous studies have reported that C. parvula is rich in polysaccharides, phenolic compounds, flavonoids, fatty acids, vitamins, and other bioactive compounds that offer numerous health benefits. However, there is currently a dearth of literature devoted specifically to its nutritional composition and recent advancements in its potential health benefits. The current review provides a comprehensive summary of the state of understanding of C. parvula, including its geographical locality, morphology, taxonomic classification, active chemical constituents, pharmacological activities, and toxicological effects. It also compiles recently discovered beneficial properties over the past two decades. Consequently, this review serves as a foundation for researchers to develop more bioactive products based on C. parvula. Therefore, this review presents consolidated data to aid researchers in the development of a new lead compound sourced from the red algae C. parvula.
