Women equally play an essential role in nation building process and direct it towards development. Economic independency, Proper education, health and nutrition’s facilities should be necessary for the bright future of the women. Women leadership is also one of the gateways for their empowerment. Panchayati Raj Institutions are performing vital role in Indian society from ancient time. Participation of people in local self-government is an important means to bringing the changes in socio-economic and political field. In this democratic process each and every individual of country have got to take part in the local self-government. Government of India passed 73rd Amendment Act 1992 came into force from the 24 April 1993 and made the provision for women reservation in local self-government under article 243 (d). Lack of education and tanning skills, economic dependency, non-execution of legal rights, disapproval of her decision by the head of the family, male dominance, cultural and traditional obstacles, inferior status in the society. So, the present study attempted to fill this gap by conducting a survey-based study to investigate the status of women in grass-root politics. The present study will be meaningful to examining the socio-economic and political background of the women leaders and also helpful to identifies the various huddles faced by the women in grass-root political politics. Hence, the study suggested some factors which assisted women to enhance awareness and boost economic, social and decision making capacity.
