A STUDY TO ASSESS THE EFFECTIVENESS OF SELF INSTRUCTIONAL MODULE ON CHILD REARING PRACTICES AMONG PRIMIGRAVIDA MOTHERS ATTENDING ANTENATAL OUTPATIENT DEPARTMENT IN SELECTED MATERNITY HOSPITAL AT BANGALORE
ABSTRACT
Background and Objectives: This study attempts to assess the Effectiveness of Self instructional module on Child rearing practices among Primigravida mothers.
The objectives of the study are:
• To assess the pre-test knowledge of primigravida mothers on child-rearing practices.
• To assess the effectiveness of Self Instructional Module on child-rearing practices by comparing pre and post test knowledge score.
• To determine the association between the selected demographic variables and knowledge on child-rearing practices among primigravida mothers.
Methodology: A quasi experimental research design was chosen for the present study to assess the Knowledge on child rearing practices.In this study the Independent variable is Self Instructional Module and Dependant variable is Knowledge level of the primigravida mothers regarding child-rearing practices.The sample of this study comprisedof 60 Primigravida mothers those who fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Purposive sampling techniquewas used to draw the sample for the study. Results: The results of this study showed the majorityin the age group 36.67% distributed in 25-29 years,In religion 45 % were in Hindu, Related to the educational status, 6.67 %were illiterate, Regarding the occupational status 40% were house wife, regarding the family income35%were distributed in above Rs. 3000.Regarding the type of family66.67% were distributed in joint family, Regarding the exposure to mass media 40% exposure with radio. The mean post test knowledge score of child rearing practices among primigravida mothers is significantly higher than the mean pre test knowledge score by paired‘t’ test. There is a significant increase in knowledge regarding child rearing practices among primigravida mothers after the administration of self instructional module than before it was proved.
Interpretation and Conclusion:The self instructional module developed by the investigator was found to be effective in increasing the knowledge of primigravida mothers regarding child rearing practices.
