Acrophobia is a scientific term used to describe the fear of height. A
phobia is an intense fear to a particular thing or a situation. To normal person this fear
is tolerable. But to the person with the phobia, the danger feels real because the fear is
very strong. People can learn to overcome phobias by facing their fears over a period
of time. This is not easy at first but it takes time to overcome the fear.
The traditional treatment for acrophobia is usually done through exposure
therapy, where individuals suffering from acrophobia will be physically exposed to
the heights which can be a nightmare to the patients. The goal of this project is to
develop a simple 3D virtual environment to perform exposure therapy for acrophobia
which helps to avoid sudden panic and fear of the patients. By undergoing this
therapy the person can become confident as the particular fear reduces gradually.
