An emerging concept, "edge computing" places processing & data storage closer to the user, reducing latency & maximizing efficiency. The need for low-latency, high-bandwidth applications is propelling the development of edge computing, which in turn aims to ease the limitations of traditional, cloud-based data centers. Detailing its architectural principles, advantages, problems & prospective use-cases, this article presents an in-depth overview of edge computing. Edge computing, along with other new technologies such as 5G, AI & blockchain are discussed, along with the revolutionary potential of these overlapping developments. The talk highlights how, despite its promised benefits, edge computing faces various problems, including security, data management & interoperability, requiring continuing research & standardization efforts to fully fulfill its potential.
