Background- Padmak Agad is a vishahara yoga. The prabhava of the yoga is said to “Ashesh keetlootanam agad sarvakamik” (A.H.U 37 / 28)1 i.e. it is effective in all types of keet and loota visha to relieve all the symptoms of insect bite. Insect bite can cause an immediate skin reaction, often resulting in redness and swelling at the injured site. Regardless of the triggering aetiology, inflammation is the initial response of the host defence mechanism to infection, irritants, or foreign bodies. When it becomes severe, it leads to tissue damage. It is a complex interplay of enzyme activation, mediator release, fluid extravasation, cell migration, tissue breakdown and repair that can sometimes produce systemic signs and symptoms such as fever, malaise, loss of appetite, and so on. Therefore, control of inflammation is critical phenomenon. Material and methods-Paw edema model was selected for the present study. Eighteen Wistar albino rats had been divided in to three groups each group contain six mice. First group was negative control group; second group was test drug group while third group was standard group. Test drug was given to the group 2 for 1 days O.D. Result- When we performed the paw edema model, thickness of paw was 6.57±0.538, 5.95±0.518, 5.67±0.273, 5.02±0.250 at the end of 0, 3, 6 and 24 hrs respectively. While the volume of paw was 0.94±0.048, 0.83±0.037, 0.77±0.022, 0.79±0.027 at the end of 0, 3, 6 and 24 hrs respectively. On applying Dunnett's multiple comparisons test to compare the group 1 to group 2 and group 1 to group 3, there was statistically significant role of test drug in Paw edema model. Discussion and Conclusion- Significant anti-inflammatory effect of Padmak Agad is found in tail clip model.
