| Abstract: | The development of any nation is impossible without the development of its rural economy. The government needs to make strong economic policies and implementing strategies for the economic betterment of people living in rural India. Government of India passed National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) on 25th August 2005 and renamed as the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) on 2nd October 2009. The aim of the act was to protect the rural people from the poverty and unemployment and improve the standard of living of the rural people the MGNREGA essentially guarantees employment for the unemployed in rural areas for a minimum of 100 days in a year. The present study analyze the progress of MGNRGEA in the Haryana state from 2018-19 to 2022-23. The study found that progress of MGNREGA is not satisfactory because of less number of active workers in the scheme and less participation by Gram Panchayats in providing employment to the rural workers. The study also provides some suggestions to make the scheme more fruitful and valuable. |
