Abstract: Despite the wide acceptance of teacher leadership competency in enhancing the teaching and learning quality in developing countries, it is still at a nascent stage in India. The Indian teachers were mainly restricted to the conventional chalk and talk classroom teaching method and reported a consistent lack of training in developing effective leadership roles, despite having immense capabilities to become efficient leaders. The government has also failed to take the necessary steps to develop leadership skills among teachers. The teachers, thus, fail to recognize their roles as leaders to students. This, in turn, may cause dissatisfaction among the teachers, which, consequently, has a cascading effect on the outcomes of students. In this context, the current study intended to analyze the impact of teacher leadership competency (TLC) on job satisfaction (JS) of teachers and students’ outcomes, along with the impact of teachers’ job satisfaction on students’ outcomes. Moreover, the current study also aimed to explore the association of teacher leadership competency and their job satisfaction for demographic variables. The hypotheses of the study were tested through a well-structured questionnaire and the quantitative responses obtained from 500 secondary school teachers of Hassan district, Karnataka was evaluated. Interviews were also conducted among selected Headmaster/Headmistress or Principals for obtaining qualitative data. The collected quantitative data were analysed using SPSS 24. Simple and multiple linear regressions were employed to understand causal associations between the dependent and independent variables. To confirm the conceptual framework created for this study, Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was employed by using Analysis of a Moment Structures (AMOS) software. The outcomes revealed a positive correlation between sub-constructs of TLC [teacher mentorship (TM), the leadership of developmental tasks (LDT) and leadership of pedagogy (LP)] and Job satisfaction (workgroups, mentally challenging work, supervision, incentives and rewards, and working conditions). Besides, a moderate to high positive correlation was observed between sub-constructs of JS and Student outcomes (academic outcome and social outcome) and a moderately positive correlation was identified between sub-constructs of TLC and Student outcomes. Moreover, among the sub-constructs of TLC, LDT significantly and positively affected the job satisfaction of the teachers and TM had a significant positive effect on students’ academic outcome. Also, teachers’ job satisfaction significantly and positively influenced students’ academic and social outcomes. Further, the current study found a significant difference in teachers’ leadership competency based on their age and marital status and a significant variation in job satisfaction based on the age, total work experience of the teachers and their experience in teaching Science and Arts. Thus, the present study provide insights regarding the prominent role played by TLC in influencing the job satisfaction of teachers and student outcomes in a positive manner, emphasizing the need for grooming teachers to develop leadership competency for effective student outcomes.
