| Abstract: | Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease characterized by cognitive decline, memory loss, and behavioral disturbances. Despite extensive research, a definitive treatment for AD remains elusive. Galantamine, a reversible acetylcholinesterase inhibitor and allosteric modulator of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, has emerged as a promising therapeutic option for the treatment of cognitive symptoms of AD. This review article provides a comprehensive analysis of the mechanism of action, clinical efficacy, safety profile and future perspectives of galantamine in the treatment of AD. |
