The present study on ‘Association studies and path analysis in elite inbreds of maize (Zea mays L.)’ was carried out at Experimental Farm of Shivalik Agricultural Research and Extension Centre, Kangra during kharif, 2022 using α-RBD with 3 replications. The experimental material comprised of 36 diverse maize inbreds including three checks viz., HKI 1108, LM 13 and LM 14. Grain yield/plant (g) exhibited a significant positive correlation with plant height (cm), cob placement (cm), cob length (cm), cob girth (cm), no. of kernel rows/cob, no. of kernels/row, 100 kernel weight (g) and shelling (%) at both phenotypic and genotypic levels indicating that selection based on these traits would be effective for obtaining high grain yield/plant (g). Path analysis revealed the highest positive direct effect for days to 50% pollen shed followed by no. of kernel rows/cob, cob length (cm) and no. of kernels/row on grain yield/plant (g). Therefore, these traits should be emphasized in maize improvement program.
