Abstract: Abstract- Newtown, Rajarhat is a satellite city located on Kolkata, West Bengal. The Newtown Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) and the West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (HIDCO) together is working since the beginning to build a sustainable smart city and it gained manifold success so far. The sustainable city defined as environment designed to focus on minimizing environmental negative impact, promoting economic viability, and enhancing the social well-being. The sustainable cities include the uses of renewable energy sources, energy-efficient infrastructure, and the reduction of carbon emissions. These cities prioritize resource efficiency through waste reduction, recycling programs, and sustainable water management. So the environmental responsibility, economic feasibility, and social inclusivity is crucial for the successful development of sustainable cities. In this case study, we have attempted to summarize the methods, their effectiveness, achievements and failures that the city is facing day by day. Surveys along with the secondary information acquired from several authorities and web links have been used to draw parity between urbanization, land-use changes and establishment of the “smart green city” of India.
