Workloads involving higher computational operations require impressive computational units. Computational operations may involve very complex operations of very high precision levels. These complex operations may involve artificial neural networks and requires a very fast execution speed. Based on this particular requirement of high computational need for an efficient and fast execution operation, computational operations are needed to be performed in the memory system itself. The memory system with computational capabilities is called a Processor in memory (PIM) or computational memory. In this paper, different PIM memories and their challenges have been reviewed, and their proposed solutions have been proposed. The proposed solution tends to provide energy-efficient and dynamic configurable PIM units.
